GHAMRO vs Akosua Agyapong. GHAMRO Accuses Akosua Agyapong of Spreading Lies, Prepares Legal Battle
GHAMRO, the Ghana Music Rights Organization, has announced its intention to take legal action against musician Akosua Agyapong in response to what it considers to be unfounded statements made by her. Diana Hopeson, a board member of GHAMRO, has accused Akosua Agyapong of consistently spreading lies about the organization, thereby damaging its reputation over an extended period of time.
In recent developments, GHAMRO’s license, which authorizes it to distribute royalties, has been revoked. Madam Hopeson asserts that Akosua Agyapong and other dissatisfied members have repeatedly violated GHAMRO’s constitution and levied baseless allegations against it. While highlighting Akosua Agyapong as a specific target, she states that GHAMRO is now prepared to initiate legal proceedings to substantiate the charges made against her.
Expressing concern, Madam Hopeson suggests that the revocation of GHAMRO’s license, based on false information, may encourage Akosua Agyapong and her associates to further propagate falsehoods about the organization. Madam Hopeson emphasizes, “Furthermore, certain members, including Akosua Agyapong, actively advise businesses against paying royalties, demonstrating their clear animosity towards GHAMRO.” She believes that Akosua Agyapong is best suited to explain her motives and actions, as they appear to be detrimental to GHAMRO.
GHAMRO is determined to pursue legal action this time, as the impact of Akosua Agyapong’s actions on the organization cannot be ignored. “She persistently spreads false rumors about our organization operating illegally, which is why we are fully prepared to address this through the legal system,” asserts Madam Hopeson.
She implies that Akosua Agyapong’s agenda is driven by a desire for power, aiming to undermine GHAMRO. Interestingly, Akosua Agyapong abstains from participating in elections, possibly due to the realization that her conduct, which tarnishes the organization’s name, may result in penalties as prescribed by the law. Despite repeated requests for Akosua Agyapong to appear before GHAMRO to address the concerns, she has consistently failed to do so, indicating a lack of interest in the organization’s success.
