David Ampofo, a distinguished veteran journalist, has recently made a profound statement on his Alma Mater High School Band WhatsApp Platform, much to the surprise of his mentee, Shasha Marley, a renowned Ghanaian International Reggae Icon.
In his message, Ampofo expressed, “Nothing gives me more pleasure and satisfaction than singing… True! Not even journalism.” This revelation came as a shock to many members of the WhatsApp group, which comprises esteemed career professionals, including former members of the illustrious “Matthew Chapter 5” Student Band from Saint John’s High School in Sekondi. This band garnered significant acclaim during the Juvenile Live Dance Band era from the late 60s to the early 80s.

Shasha Marley, intrigued by Ampofo’s declaration, posed a question to his High School Band Mentor, asking if he intended to depart from his distinguished career to revisit his musical roots and potentially embark on a global tour together.
During his time at Saint John’s High School in Sekondi, Ampofo, now recognized as a strategic communication guru, showcased his musical talents as the Lead Singer for the Matthew Chapter 5 Band. His smooth, synthetic, high-pitched voice resonated with audiences nationwide as he performed reggae and romantic songs, winning the admiration of many.
Despite his successful journalism career, where he currently serves as the CEO of the Ghana Upstream Petroleum Chamber, Ampofo’s deep-seated passion for singing seems to persist, sparking speculation about a potential return to his musical roots alongside Shasha Marley.
