World football magician as he’s notably known has beaten teammate Kylian Mbappe to win the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Player Award
The Argentine and PSG player who has won almost every award has again added to his tally the Best FIFA Men’s Player, a career full of accomplishments many may say.
Prior to this award, Messi displayed top-notch performance in the just-ended Qatar FIFA World Cup where he led the national team to win the trophy and his very first World Cup.
Messi in his speech at the awards ceremony at the Salle Pleyel expressed his delight for winning the award.
It’s amazing. It was a tremendous year and it is an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award, said Messi.
The award is the second he has received and first which he won in 2019.
I want to express my thanks to [coach Lionel] Scaloni and my teammates; without them I would not be here,
I achieved a dream I had been hoping for so long and finally I achieved it. It’s a dream for any player; very few people can achieve that and I was lucky enough to do so.” Messi added.
Reports are that teammate Kylian Mbappe didn’t get a vote from Messi as Messi elected teammate Neymar.
Many have remarked that Mbappe’s prolific performance could have earned him the award and that the youngster still has many years ahead to achieve such glory.
Supporters, national team captains, national team coaches and 300 journalists from various nations, were the vote casters with each of the four pillars given 25 per cent of the vote.
