Jamaican singer-songwriter TheSubstance has recently released the official music video for his powerful new single “Black Skin,” which debuted on February 14th. The song, a heartfelt ode to African women, celebrates their beauty, strength, and resilience. Since its release, “Black Skin” has gained tremendous traction, amassing over 2 million streams on various digital platforms. Its universal message and emotive lyrics have struck a chord with listeners around the world, resonating especially with influencers and women on TikTok. Born on October 14, 1988, TheSubstance, whose real name is Reinard Bryan, is a multi-talented Jamaican artist known for his songwriting, performing, and recording skills. His career milestones include winning the Best New Artiste award at the Clarendon Music Awards in 2012, solidifying his position as a rising star. In 2015, he released his 10-track EP “Spiritual Insomnia,” which showcased his versatility and depth as both a performer and a lyricist. The EP demonstrated his ability to blend emotional storytelling with a broad range of musical styles.

TheSubstance is currently honing his craft at Audio Traxx Studio in Old Harbour, working with producer Lamar Thompson. His recent collaborations have resulted in tracks like “Fools in Love (Pt. 1 & 2)” featuring Saine, “Steaming,” “Soaring High” featuring TruVice, and “King For You.” With the release of “Black Skin,” TheSubstance further cements his place in the music industry, focusing on creating art that uplifts and celebrates African women. His ability to balance the roles of both artist and songwriter highlights the depth of his creative expression.

In addition to his musical achievements, TheSubstance has faced personal challenges, including the tragic loss of his 11-year-old daughter, Reimarie, in 2019, whom his family believes died from dengue-related complications. Despite these hardships, he remains dedicated to his craft.

TheSubstance’s music has been featured on various prestigious platforms such as Reggae King Radio, Vibes Link F.M. New Jersey, Road Block Radio of VP Records, Newstalk 93fm, Hot 102 FM, and publications like Irie magazine, 18 Karat Reggae, and Reggaeville.
